Gastronauts was an evening that pleased, teased and provoked the senses as well as the mind, taking as its subject our food and food system in all its complexity, familiarity and treachery.
The audience, invited into a restaurant space which tricked the senses itself with illusion and artificiality, was served a meal which also was not what it first appeared. Sweet, savoury, challenging, comforting and ultimately full of stories, the food was served by a cast of performers whose shape-shifting personas played out a series of fragmentary stories and sequences which were dreamlike, surreal, funny and dark.
